(Roosting because the quilt top stays with the same maker through all the different rounds.)

I think that the Traditional Round Robin works best when done by a small group 6 to 8 Quilters. So we decided to do the Modern Roosting Robin with the whole Guild. Each month we give out a set of instructions and demonstrate the technique at our Guild meeting. There was no set size for the Quilt Top, so we have participants working on table runners, lap quilts and wall quilts.

By giving out the instructions a month at a time allows each participant to work at their own pace and we have a Show’n Tell at each meeting to see how everyone’s doing – at the moment at least half the Guild is taking part. The “Modern” part comes into the quilt top as we don’t do the round and round addition- sometimes the instructions say only add to two sides of your quilt.

This might be easier to understand by looking at the photos. We are on Round 5 at the moment but we will keep you all updated as we go along.

Round 1 start with a center block this is a printed block with plain black border.

Round 2 add “black and white” four patch to only two sides.

Round 3 use Appliqué either hand or machine.

Round 4 use words – this could be fabric with printed words, Appliquéd words etc.

Round 5 use the Improv Cross block – add on one side or use as corner blocks.

We will keep you updated as we go on.
