Last Month’s Open Day was a morning of demos, shopping, coffee and catch ups. The quilts on display, courtesy of the Sheffield Night Owls and the Kloof Country Quilters Guilds, showed a variety of techniques, colours and skills and were a delight to look at. Drene Ruddy was the guest speaker and displayed a selection of her quilts too. She spoke of the process of piecing her quilts together – and how she used her left over flowers to create new quilt after new quilt! An expert long-arm quilter, many of Drene’s quilts are hand pieced and stitched. Drene shared her expertise with the ladies in attendance, answering all sorts of questions!

Quilters were treated to a variety of goods on sale, from fabrics, patterns, sewing tools to mugs and books. Snack attacks were satisfied by the delicious selection of treats available – both sweet and savoury.

Debbie’s demo was well attended and Kristin gave a crash course in doodling and how that helps with free motion quilting. Check out the previous post for more information on an inspiring extreme free motion quilter, based in Australia – Helen Godden.

Tickets for our next fundraiser, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat are now on sale – but get in quickly. This matinee show is heavily discounted and the tickets are selling out rapidly. The young performers who entertained us at our High Tea have spent countless hours practicing for this show and apart from raising funds for the Voices In Cloth Quilt Festival 2024, they deserve our support.

Our next Open Morning will be on 2 September 2023 at Skogheim at Izotsha, down the South Coast. Certainly worth planning a visit and if you haven’t booked yourself a spot, click on this link to secure yourself a weekend away with like-minded ladies, great food, fun and friendship! The guest speaker at the September Open Morning is John J Cole-Morgan, who will be with us, all the way from the UK! How exciting! KZNQG members are welcome to pop in for the morning at no charge, and the visitor fees for non-members is R50. Save yourself the hassle of making lunch and join us for only R 120. It really is something special to look forward to.
